Grise de St. Jean is a French cultivar highly regarded and well documented by collectors. The flavor profile is figgy with an underlying tone of complex sugar and berry. The texture is dense and creamy. The figs can dry in the tree and maintain an outstanding texture and sweetness. The figs have a beautiful grey hue which is very rate and a key attribute of the variety. The tree is of slow vigor which makes it a great choice for growers with limited space. The variety produces two crops both of excellent quality. In 2024 this was in my top 10 varieties only dwarf by some unbeatable types.
