La Marseillaise is a small fig with a very sweet and distinct flavor. By simple looks this variety would fall on the “honey” type fig. This could not be further from reality. This fig is remarkable. It has a complex sweetness with fruity notes, and light brown sugar on the most ripe figs. The fruit is green with a deep yellow hue when ripe. The tree is productive, and you can enjoy an extended harvest with this variety. It is worth noting that the figs ripen early which is a plus for short growing zones. I have not noticed any splitting with this variety, however, there are reports that the figs can split under heavy rain. I would recommend this variety for anyone growing figs in a zone with short hot summers. Definitely a great variety to add in any collection.
